SMART Board interactive whiteboard part of winning legal strategy
Attorney Robert Hanlon, Jr. presents evidence with SMART products in recent court case
LAS VEGAS, Nevada --- June 9, 2005 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces the use of the SMART Board™ interactive whiteboard in a recent court case won by attorney Robert Hanlon, Jr., a partner with the law firm of Hanlon, Boglioli & Hanlon, PC, in New Jersey. The firm’s clients include DaimlerChrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes, Freightliner and Ryder. Using a SMART Board interactive whiteboard in a recent case for DaimlerChrysler Corporation, Hanlon simplified complex legal arguments through effective visual displays for the jury. He used SMART’s interactive whiteboard, provided by the legal consulting firm Array Technology LLC, to display all his exhibits, including diagrams, photographs, video footage, documents and Microsoft® PowerPoint® slides, instead of using the more traditional poster-board exhibits.
With custom, touch-based interactive presentations prepared by the visual strategy firm Litigation Presentation, Hanlon was able to maintain the focus of witnesses and jurors by displaying digital evidence and exhibits on the interactive whiteboard, writing over the material in digital ink and highlighting important details. Expert witnesses walked up to the SMART Board interactive whiteboard and used their finger or a pen to explain their testimony to the jury. With SMART Board software, Hanlon saved the handwritten notes directly into the file for future reference. The combination of specifically designed, touch-enabled presentations and the SMART Board interactive whiteboard increased the effectiveness of witness testimony, and comprehension and retention by the jury.
“Using the SMART Board interactive whiteboard to enlarge and highlight portions of a document with a simple touch of the screen engaged the jurors like never before,” says Hanlon. “The SMART Board interactive whiteboard got the witnesses out of their seats, allowing for a more dynamic and effective way to convey complex issues to the jury.”
“The advent of touch interactivity in evidence and exhibit displays gets us one step closer to the jurors,” explains Jil Wyland, president of Litigation Presentation. “The SMART Board interactive whiteboard allows the attorney to move, retract and alter visuals and presentations with the tap of a finger.”
“Legal presentations designed and delivered using SMART Board interactive whiteboards enable attorneys to break down complex cases and make dynamic presentations, making it easier for juries to maintain focus on the details and understand the case,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s president and co-CEO. “Inviting witnesses to get involved with the legal case by interacting with evidence dramatically increases the effectiveness of the legal argument.”
